Nepal vs Myanmar Football Friendly Match 2023
The head coach of Nepal’s national football team, Vincenzo Alberto Annese, has unveiled the squad that will compete in two friendly matches against Myanmar on September 8 and 11. This announcement comes after the 23-member squad was officially revealed.
Coach Annese has introduced significant changes to the team, making 10 alterations from the squad that participated in the SAFF Championship in Bangalore last June. Notably, seven fresh faces have received their first call-up to the national team, including Ashish Gurung, Anjan Rai, Chhiring Lama, Utsav Rai, Hisub Thapalia, Gillespye Jung Karki, and Kritish Ratna Chhunju.
These upcoming friendlies will take place in Yangon, falling within the FIFA Window, offering a great opportunity for Nepal to show its football prowess.

Coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese is leaving no stone unturned to prepare his 23-man squad for the matches scheduled for September 8 and 11 in Yangon. Notable exclusions from the squad include Bimal Gharti Magar and Devendra Tamang, along with several others from the preliminary list, such as Anish Deula, Bimal Pandey, Simanta Thapa, Anjan Maharjan, Bibek Paudel, Santosh Khatri, Kushal Phuyal, and Bishal Tamang.
On the positive side, defenders Chhiring Lama, Ashish Gurung, and Anjan Rai have earned their spots in the national team for the first time. Additionally, midfielders Utsav Rai, and forwards Dinesh Henjan, Gillespye Jung Karki, and Hisub Thapaliya have received their debut call-ups.
The goalkeeper Abhishek Baral and Kritish Ratna Chhunju has been retained in the squad, although they have yet to make their national team debut.
These friendly matches hold significant importance as they will serve as vital preparation for Nepal’s upcoming first-round qualification matches for the FIFA World Cup 2023 and AFC Asian Cup 2027. Nepal’s initial challenge will be against Laos, with the first leg scheduled to take place at the Dasharath Stadium on October 12, followed by the second leg at the New Laos National Stadium in Vientiane.
