Lyon stuns Manchester City: Champions League 2019-20

In the Champions League quarter-finals, Manchester City and Lyon ended with a score of 1-3. Guardiola’s team followed Barcelona. Barcelona was eliminated in this prestigious match.

The Champions League this season is indeed full of surprises. After the Catalan giants, Barcelona was humiliated by Bayern Munich the day before, Manchester City is now kicked out by Lyon. Manchester City before the game was still the winner’s favorite until the first half of Lyon’s Maxwel Cornet’s goal finally put them behind 0-1 in the 24th minute.

When they managed to tie the score 1-1 in the second half with a goal from Kevin De Bruin in the 69th minute, they had some hope. After scoring two winning goals from Lyon, they eventually had to return to England empty-handed. Moussa Dembele broke their dream of reaching the semi-final. Dembele scored for Lyon in the 79th minute and the 87th minute to put themself in the semi-final.

Manchester City 1-3 Lyon: Champions League quarter-final

Kevin De Bruyne stated that Man City “needs to learn” because their repeated failures in the Champions League are “not good enough”.

Pep Guardiola has never surpassed the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, thus expanding his own record. And if you look at their dominance in the Premier League, it really makes us wonder how they never made it into the UCL top four.

We must also praise Rudi Garcia! About ten years ago, he defended Lyon as a player. This time he led the weaker Lyon to defeat one of the greatest forces in the Premier League. Lyon will face Bayern Munich in the semifinals next week.

Manchester City will not have a championship trophy this season. Their 2019-20 season ended in a disastrous defeat. Although not as tragic as Barcelona yesterday, it is still painful.
