Nepal national team starts training for Bangladesh friendly

The Nepal men’s football team began training at the Dasarath Stadium as preparations for two friendly matches against Bangladesh. The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) kicked off the training at Dashrath Stadium on October 29, 2020. Meanwhile, Bangladesh has already started training a few days back.

This is the first time Gorkhali training at the Dasarath Stadium after the earthquake on April 25, 2015. The Nepal National Football team’s last match at the stadium was the World Cup qualifier 2018 second leg against India in March 2015.

Only 30 players were available in the first day of the training. ANFA and coach Johan Kalin have called 34 player in the camp for World Cup 2022 and Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers.

Bal Gopal Maharjan is in charge of the national team without the head coach Johan Kalin. He works with assistant coach Kiran Shrestha and the goalkeeping coach Bikash Malla is responsible for the training together. Head coach Johan Kalin will not be available for the friendly because he is back in home Sweden and could not return due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Of the 34 players recruited into the national team, 30 participated in the training. Four players were tested for Covid-19 positive and were sent to isolation. The swab samples of the athletes were collected yesterday.

Nepal vs Bangladesh Football

Bangladesh is hosting Nepal in Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka in two-match friendly series. The matches will be played on 2020 November 13 and 17. This will be the first meeting of Bengali tigers and Gorkhali in 2 years. Nepal and Bangladesh last met at SAFF Championship 2018 where Nepal oust the host 2-0 in the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

This friendly match will be the first match for both Nepal and Bangladesh in 2020. Nepal football team will be returning to the field in almost after 7 months. Bangladesh had preparation together in August 2020 for World Cup and Asia Cup Qualifiers. After AFC and FIFA postponed the date for 2021 both the team stopped the training.
