Nepal lost 1-0 to Kuwait FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers
Nepal faced a 1-0 loss at the hands of Kuwait in Round 2 leg 2 match of the FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimpu, Bhutan. Kuwait completes a double win against Nepal playing its home match in Bhutan after registering a 7-0 win in the first leg played at Kuwait’s Jaber al-Ahmad International Stadium on September 5.
Nepal were forced to play the match against Kuwait in Thimpu after the Asian Football Confederation AFC declared Kathmandu’s under construction Dashrath Stadium, was not ready Bader al-Mutwa scored in the 28th minute which turned out the decisive goal of the match.
Kuwait put Nepal under pressure from the beginning but it was the home team that made first move. Abhishek Rijal failed to meet a cross from Ravi S Paswan inside the penalty box in the 15th minute, shot well above the bar from inside the six-yard box following a cross from Sujal Shrestha eight minutes later. Persija Jakarta’s player Rohit Chand’s shot was saved in the bottom corner by Kuwait goalkeeper Hameed Yousseef five minutes before the leamon break.
Nepal dominated the second half with superior ball possession but that did not help Nepal’s leveling the goal. Subash Gurung made his first international debut for Nepal coming on for Tej Tamang in the 88th minute. Bharat Khawas and Nawaug Shrestha were fielded in the second half but Nepal could not come back in the game from 1-0 down.
