Nepal Holds on to a Draw Against Laos in 2026 World Cup Qualifier

Nepal 1-1 Laos First Leg of World Cup 2026 Qualifiers

In a thrilling match of the 2026 World Cup Qualifier’s first round, Nepal managed to secure a draw against Laos, thanks to Anjan Bista’s early second-half goal. Bista’s 13th international goal for Nepal not only proved to be a crucial equalizer but also leveled him with Nepali football legends, Hari Khadka and Nirajan Rayamajhi in the all-time goal-scoring charts.

However, despite the relief of securing a draw, it was a night to forget for the Nepalese team. They struggled to find their form throughout the match and will face a challenging task in the away leg in Laos next week.

Laos, on the other hand, capitalized on the counter-attack, scoring a goal against the run of play, courtesy of Bounphachan Bounkong. Their swift counter-attacks proved to be a constant threat, even leading to a penalty scare for Nepal. The Nepalese team struggled to create significant scoring opportunities.

The return leg of this thrilling contest is scheduled to take place in Laos on October 17. Football fans of both nations eagerly awaits the next chapter in this exciting World Cup Qualifier.
