Xavi says Barcelona’s ‘doors are open’ to Lionel Messi
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez revealed that the door to the Camp Nou is always open for Lionel Messi. Xavi is willing to accept his former teammate as long as he remains a coach.
The Argentine soccer superstar spent 17 successful years with the Blaugrana, including 11 seasons playing with Xavi. In the process, Messi became a legend at Barca scoring nearly 700 goals and winning 35 trophies.
Lionel Messi left Camp Nou in the summer of 2021.He joined Paris Saint-Germain after Barca did not renew his contract. When Messi left, Xavi actually returned to Barca as a coach. Despite being a coach, Xavi is a former Barca playmaker and has been a teammate of Messi. Lionel Messi has only contributed seven goals and 11 assists so far this season and failed to lead PSG to fulfill their ambition of winning the Champions League. Messi was ridiculed by frustrated fans after Les Parisians were knocked out of Real Madrid in the Round of 16.
“He is the best player in history and his door will always be open and, as long as I am coach, if he wanted to come every day to watch training or talk to the coach, there is no problem,” said the Barcelona coach as was quoted by ESPN.
“He owes enormous respect from the club. It must be like that because what he has given us is priceless. But he has a contract with PSG, so I can’t say more,” Xavi added of Lionel Messi’s possible return to Barcelona.
