Thiago Messi Follows in Father’s Footsteps: Joins Inter Miami’s U-12 Academy for 2023-24 Season
Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer (MLS) club co-owned by David Beckham, has welcomed a new addition to their academy ranks. Lionel Messi’s oldest son, Thiago Messi, has officially joined Inter Miami’s U-12 team for the 2023-24 academy season. The 10-year-old Thiago is among 150 young talents vying for positions on Miami’s various youth teams, and he’s one of 35 fresh faces in the club’s academy program this season.
In the upcoming season, Miami’s U-12 team will be competing in the Florida League Academy, while the older teams will participate in MLS Next leagues. Additionally, the U-19 team will be taking part in the United Premier Soccer League.
Thiago Messi’s journey to Inter Miami’s academy is notable because he was unattached to any club before joining the team. His presence was already witnessed when he was spotted playing following the senior team’s victory in the Leagues Cup against Atlanta United just last month.
Thiago Messi is not the first child of a renowned football player to don the Inter Miami colors. The club’s owner, David Beckham, saw his son Romeo previously feature on the team’s roster. Romeo’s departure to Brentford B in January. Furthermore, the former head coach of Inter Miami, Phil Neville, has his son Harvey still under contract with the club. Harvey is currently on loan with the USL Championship side Loudoun United.
This exciting development demonstrates the continued growth and appeal of football in the United States. It also highlights the ability of famous soccer families to leave their mark on the sport
